Description Developing a new educational program is both exciting and challenging. Join us in the explorative journey of your ideas, aspirations and knowledge in the area of program development. In this course, you will learn how to take a new program idea from concept through to validation and approval. Particular attention will be paid to applying relevant legislation and frameworks that govern and guide post-secondary credentials. By examining strategies for working with Program Advisory Committees, you will learn how to integrate the insights provided by industry experts in curriculum development and professional practice. An outcomes-based education approach will be taken, which will allow you to practice developing program-level learning outcomes and conduct program mapping that serve as a basis for curriculum development and sound curriculum design.
Upon the completion of the course, you will be able to:
• Explore the contextual framework in which program concepts are developed;
• Develop a clear and concise program description;
• Develop and utilize successful strategies for working with Program Advisory Committees to ensure workplace and community needs are met;
• Develop program-level learning outcomes that are appropriate to the credential level at which the program is offered and consistent with relevant program standards;
• Develop the program content and course sequence that meet the requirements of the Credentials;
• Framework and flows coherently from the learning outcome goals of the program;
• Assess the quality of program design and consistency through the program mapping process;
• Prepare a program application for credential validation.
