Description The course examines the history of homelessness from an Equity Diversity and Inclusion lens, and the factors that contribute to homelessness. The course will introduce the participant to key knowledge areas of support including Anti-Oppressive Practice, Pathways to Service, Trauma Informed Care, Harm Reduction, Health and Mental Health and the complexities that contribute or lead to transitional and/chronic homelessness. It will also support the learner in understanding various components of the shelter system and the development of core knowledge and skill areas for those wanting to work with those experiencing homelessness in a shelter setting. This course includes interactive participation with those working or living within the shelter system.

Notes Who this course is for: Anyone interested learning about or working with people who are experiencing homelessness. For those wanting to work in the shelter system it is recommended that they have additional hospitality, community, and/or human services experience or education as it is an asset to future employment.

Section 823 - is the OSAP-eligible course and will be in person Saturday mornings at the Ashtonbee Campus for 6 hours/week for 8 weeks
