Description This course introduces the student to family functioning from a developmental approach. The developing family will be studied from a historical perspective of the family social unit, modern compositions and the family life cycle to include the developmental tasks of each stage. In today's Canadian society, alternative family lifestyles and various cultural forms with their child parenting practices will be explored. Family violence will also be studied to realize its effect on developmental and task resolution.
