Description | This course provides the learner with practical training in the most basic firefighting skills. All skills are covered under NFPA 1001 Firefighter 1 and 2 standards and are practiced in preparation for the optional NFPA certification skills test held at the end of the program.
The student will learn about various firehose, how to care for it, roll it, lay it out, and apply water to a fire. It will cover ladders, how to care for them, carry them, raise them, climb them and how to work from them. It covers the care, donning and doffing, and proper wearing of personal protective equipment. It also includes care, maintenance, donning, doffing and use of self contained breathing apparatus as well as actions to be taken in the event of equipment failure while in a hostile environment. The care and use for firefighting purposes of ropes and knots are also included in this course. All aspects of this course involve practical, hands-on training only. Theoretical lessons on these subjects are covered in other courses. |
