Description: Learn and apply the theories that support current 21st century teaching practices. Find out how to integrate global citizenship and equity, technology and communities of practice into your professional skill set. In this course you will become familiar with major learning and teaching theories relevant to creating learner-centered environments that integrate global citizenship and equity (GCE), technology and communities of practice. You will explore, challenge and engage with materials presented both in class and on the eCentennial learning management system. Various types of activities will occur in this course--from creating learning outcomes to participating in engaging online discussion. This course also focuses on peer-to-peer collaboration, reflective teaching practice and applied learning, with opportunities to consider approaches that work with your individual teaching styles and those of the learners you engage. Register today to build the essential foundation for high-impact teaching in higher education. Through the Foundations of Teaching and Learning course, you will be able to: • Reflect critically on what you've learned with reference to your own teaching; • Describe collaborative, critical and experiential approaches relevant to adults in higher education; • Describe the role of GCE and e-learning in learner-centred approaches; • Analyze how relationships between learners, teachers, schools and communities influence learning and teaching; • Relate learning outcomes to a learning taxonomy and to evaluation; • Design a learning framework that addresses learner needs, identifies learning outcomes and integrates technology.
