Description Creating strong partnerships with families is critical to a successful home child care. In this course, students will gain skills to establish and maintain a good working relationship with parents. Included in this will be the ability to identify methods to encourage parent involvement in their child's care.

Consideration of parental perspectives (cultural, feelings of anxiety, guilt and separation concerns) will be investigated.

Practical communication strategies will be discussed including the use of bulletin boards, journals, email, daily information and records, sharing of positive stories to enhance the parent/caregiver relationship.

This course will also explore the expectations and responsibilities of both the parent and caregiver as well as defining interpersonal communication strategies to effectively respond to concerns, complaints and to solve these problems.
