Description This course provides a hands-on introduction to the features and functionality of Linux operating systems. The course covers fundamental concepts that create a foundation for exploring and testing the Linux command line and the basics of Linux software installation and configuration. Students will learn essential open source concepts and develop the knowledge required to build further expertise by continuing with other courses in the series. Through prescriptive step-by-step labs, students will interact with the Linux operating system and build on their skills and knowledge as they progress through the course.

This instructor-led course is the first of three courses in the Centennial College curriculum for Linux Professional Institute certification. Courses in this series help prepare students for entry level positions as software developers, Linux administrators as well as Cybersecurity Operations. When combined with the CCNA Routing & Switching curriculum, the courses prepare students for network engineering positions. The courses leverage the advanced flexibility and capabilities of the Cisco Networking Academy learning environment to implement a "practice as you read" approach to learning. The courses include in-class activities, hands-on labs and a wide array of assessment types and tools.

This course aligns with exam objectives of the Linux Professional Institute (LPI) Linux Essentials Professional Development Certificate and Domain 2.1 of the CompTIA A+ Certification 220-902 exam. Upon successful completion of the course, the student is eligible to receive a congratulatory letter from LPI documenting that the student has completed the course and providing information on discounts for certification exams.
