Description: | For emerging communications media professionals, a strong portfolio is key to academic opportunities, grants, and employment. In a world that relies increasingly on digital formats, a portfolio works to represent both the capability, the body of work and the individual style, to present to employers, potential collaborators or for admission to further study. It is why it is important to make the best impression possible. This course will pair focused, hands on development time and classroom-based tutorials during which students will produce and assemble a quality portfolio to be used for communication with educational institutions, employers, and media colleagues. This includes learning how to craft compelling professional individual statements, resumes/bios, and letters of intent. Students will have the opportunity to create new an array of samples of media work in practice and in class, identifying individual artistic or professional styles, determining global, theoretical and historical influences in their work, and investigating the requirements for entering the competitive communications media industry. Students will also experience portfolio development as a process of self-awareness, storytelling through media and continuous learning and development. |
