Description: | This course introduces students to writing styles for several forms of mass media, with units covering TV news, social media, blogs and print profiles. Students explore various style guides and are given hands-on practice and feedback. This course teaches students to look critically at the sources writers use and touches on methods of research and verification. It also introduces student to the basic tenets of media ethics. Through a combination of weekly writing exercises, current events quizzes, guest speakers, newsroom visits and writing assignments, students should leave the course with an understanding of the skills required to work as a writer in a modern newsroom. |
