Description | This course will introduce students to strategies and interventions in withdrawal management and overdose prevention in the addiction field. Topics covered include, integrating clients with substance use into withdrawal management services, identifying treatment needs/goals, assessing for overdose risk, and recognizing the effects and withdrawal symptoms of various substances. Ethical and legal issues that may arise in withdrawal, overdose and harm reduction settings will also be discussed. A practical application of harm reduction and overdose prevention strategies and approaches will be utilized, alongside an exploration of the barriers/solutions to implementing harm reduction and overdose prevention models.
