Required Textbooks:
Not Applicable

The course instructor (practicum supervisor) will arrange for students to observe and practice teach under supervision of a qualified TESL Canada teacher (mentor teacher) in an ESL program at one of the Centennial College campuses. Please note that those students who would like a placement off campus (e.g. a private ESL school or LINC centre) must secure their own practicum placement. However, the placement must be in a school or centre with qualified, TESL Ontario certified ESL teachers who are willing to supervise and evaluate the student. This information must be sent to the course instructor (practicum supervisor) for approval before students can begin their practicum. No practicum shall start any earlier than week 4 of the semester.

The on-campus practicum assignment must be accepted by e-mail. Should students decline the practicum placement for any reason, they will need to find one on their own with a qualified mentor teacher. Once a practicum placement has been accepted, students are required to complete it on the assigned dates unless there is a valid documented emergency. If there is a change in personal situation, students must let the practicum supervisor know as soon as possible and will be required to withdraw and re-register for the following semester if it is too late in the semester for a practicum to be completed. In some cases, students may be able to plan with their mentor teacher directly provided that such arrangements are approved by the course instructor (practicum supervisor) and mentor teacher.

Pre-Requisites
TESL 101, 102, and 103.
